When you walk into a home that has a bohemian design style you immediately feel immersed in another culture. Trinkets are displayed from travels and the whole vibe feels very nomadic. When we compare different design styles Bohemian is one of the few where order isn’t necessary. Mixing patterns and colors is encouraged.

Likewise, we’re also seeing a trend of modern boho style. The addition of animal hides, metallic accents, and rich wood help modernize this collected style. We love that Bohemian style interiors use things in unconventional ways.

  • Color Palette: Use a mix of rich, earthy tones like deep reds, browns, emerald greens, and vibrant colors. Jewel tones and pastels also work well together. You can also keep a neutral base for your walls (modern boho style) and then have fun with textures, layers and color.
  • Textiles: Layer various fabrics, such as cushion covers, natueal fibre rugs, throws & cozy throw pillows. Patterns, patterns everywhere, look for patterns like florals, paisley, and tribal prints. Use textiles with different textures, including velvet, linen, and crochet.
  • Furniture: Opt for vintage or handmade pieces. Low seating options such as poufs scattered around, floor cushions, or a bean bag chair can add to the relaxed feel. Mix and match items like wood & rattan rather than having a uniform set.
  • Plants: Incorporate a lot of greenery with potted plants, hanging plants, or terrariums. Such elements bring life into the space and contribute to a peaceful atmosphere.
  • Lighting: Use soft, warm lighting. String lights, hanging lamps, lanterns, or candles can create a cozy ambiance. Consider unique light fixtures like beaded chandeliers for an artistic touch.
  • Wall Art: Hang eclectic art pieces, like tapestries, murals, crochet/macrame wall hangings or framed photographs. Incorporate items from different cultures and time periods for a global aesthetic.
  • Accessories: Add eclectic décor items such as dreamcatchers, mirrors, crystals, or stacks of vintage books. Add baskets & glass vases with twigs for a minimalist look. Personal touches can make the space feel unique and inviting.
  • Scent: Use incense, essential oils, or scented candles to create a calming atmosphere. Choose scents that resonate with your bohemian theme, like sandalwood or lavender.
  • Creative Spaces: If possible, create a nook for creativity—think an easel for painting, a small writing desk, or a space for crafts.

By combining these elements, you can create a bohemian atmosphere that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also feels personal and inviting.

Bohemian design is a free-spirited aesthetic that mixes different cultures and artistic expressions into an eclectic style that thinks outside the box. A laid back boho atmosphere places an emphasis on nature. However, it’s common to find bold patterns and bright colors for furniture and accents.

If you’re looking to channel your inner Boho spirit, grab a bunch of cool stuff and start making a mood board that screams all things eclectic and groovy! Get those colors and items that make your heart sing and let the good vibes flow!
