The Best-Ever Bran Muffins (A 70-Year-Old Classic Worth Keeping)
There are recipes—and then there are recipes. You know the ones: scribbled on yellowing paper, folded into a weathered cookbook, passed from mother to daughter, friend to friend. This bran muffin recipe is exactly that kind of treasure.
It comes from my dear friend’s mother, who baked these hearty little gems for over 70 years. That’s right—seven decades of muffin magic. And let me tell you, they’re nothing like the dry, tasteless bran muffins you might be picturing. These are moist, flavorful, and just the right balance of wholesome and indulgent. A little bite of nostalgia, really.
They freeze beautifully, make the house smell like home, and are perfect with a cup of tea or tucked into a lunchbox. I always say if something’s been baked and loved for 70 years straight, it’s earned its place in your recipe box.
So let’s get back to basics—with a muffin that’s stood the test of time.

Awesome! Absolutely delightful as the kids would say 🙂
Thank you for posting my mother’s recipe. These muffins are always on hand whether at home or at the cottage. They are individually wrapped in plastic wrap when cooled and popped into the freezer making it easy to grab one, defrost it quickly and have with my morning coffee. Definitely my favourite.
Wish I could give these six stars. Hot cup of tea and one of these Bran muffins…good to go !!!
